Abstract Love

STOP.

This blog post is about the Netflix Series called Abstract: The Art of Design. To my fellow creative (particularly seeking inspiration), I suggest you:

a. Strap on your seatbelt.

b. Watch the hell out of the series.

c. Go on with your bad self so you can impact the world with your creativity like these masterminds.

Abstract brings you inside the minds of today’s most innovative designers and reveals how their work impacts our everyday lives. The show covers artists who make a living – and a difference – through architecture, illustration, photography, and automobile, interior, sneaker, graphic and stage design.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

There’s major queenage up in here. I was personally moved by the fierce drive and unabashed creativity that oozes from Paula Scher and Es Devlin.

Paula Scher is the first female principle at Pentagram, the NYC agency known to pump out the world’s best of the best in design work. She’s the queen of typography responsible for the immensely successful, widely-imitated redesign for The Public Theater that changed the look of the advertising world as we know it. Paula also built the new graphic identities for Citibank and Tiffany & Co. which were so successful in translating amongst a worldwide audience, they’ve become case studies.

Hey, Queen P.

Then, there’s Es Devlin, stage designer for Beyonce’s Formation Tour and sets for countless others including Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Adele, Miley Cyrus and The Rolling Stones.

Yeah.

Here’s our homegirl, Es.

What’s also interesting about the series’ artists are their additional creative activities. Painting, molding, crafting. As Paula mentioned: A mind must be in a state of play to create.

Give your creativity and this badass series the green light.

Now go, baby, GO.
