Once upon a time, a blogger meandering the Venice Beach boardwalk came upon a cute chalkboard sign that read “Beach Beauty Culture.” A fan of each of those things, she was intrigued. She read the subtitle, “Karma-based salon” and was already halfway through the door. This sounded pretty groovy to the young maiden.
Alright, alright. Enough with the whole fairy-tale talk.
That blogger was me (#duh) and yes, you read right. Beach Beauty Culture runs on a karma-based payment scale. You set the price.
I’ve been frequenting this spot for hair flair and repair since I found it about a year ago and am perpetually impressed by the levels of both talent and positive energy housed under the ocean-view operation.
Here’s a bit from the Beach Beauty Culture philosophy:
“You can rest assured that no matter what your financial situation may be at the time, you will be taken care of. We operate under a system where you can set your own price for your haircut and beauty services. For less fortunate individuals, your service is covered thanks to our generous clients who donate on their behalf.”
My latest trip was a date with Miss Holly who intensified my ombre. I literally showed her one photo of what I wanted and boom, slap and snap- my hair went from meh to marvelous.
The salty sea breeze swept through the open glass doors as we chatted about life, my new surfing hobby, her latest projects, etc. It was, as it always is, a royally relaxing time.
